10 Movie Quotes So Famous You Didn't Need to See the Movie - A quiz

01/17/2012

Movies (and TV, Facebook, etc.) have become the modern equivalent of the aged elders sitting around the campfire telling stories. Those stories were once relatively limited in number and everyone heard them. In modern time, there seem to be an infinite quantity of tales to tell ... on an infinite number of cable channels. Nevertheless, a few stories have grown famous enough to become part of our culture. For better or worse, they are touchstones that can be alluded to with the expectation everyone will know what you're talking about, at least for a few moments: Octomom, anyone?

Here are some movie quotes that have wormed their way into the cultural fabric. You don't even have to have seen the movies that spawned them to recognize these famous lines. See if you can name the movie that gave us each quote. You can go to Read More to find the answers. Let me know how you did on this quiz. I'd love to see how many you got right (probably 10 out of 10) and how many of the movies you've actually seen. Give yourself bonus points for knowing the name of the character who said it.

1. "You had me at hello"
2. "I'm the king of the world!"
3. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
4. "You talkin' to me?"
5. "I'll have what she's having."
6. "May the force be with you"
7. "I wish I knew how to quit you."
8. "My momma always said life was like a box of chocolates"
9. "Houston, we have a problem."
10. "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti."

    About the guy

Carlos Alcalá is a middle-aged man with the movie tastes of a
13-year-old girl. Fortunately, he is also a writer with strong analytical skills and decades of experience. He is married to a woman who has far better taste in cinema and he has three children, including a daughter who finds her father's love of chick flicks embarrassing.
